NSW: Nine seeks injunction to stop ABC television Eve fireworks
Television station Channel Nine is seeking a hearing date in the Federal court for
an injunction stopping the ABC from televising the New Year's Eve firework spectacular
planned for Sydney Harbour.
The network is claiming an agreement between it and the Sydney City Council gives the
network exclusive rights to all New Year's Eve events.
As a major sponsor of the $5 million fireworks display, the network claims it is entitled
to exclusive broadcast rights as part of its deal with the council.
Justice LESLIE KATZ has directed that Channel Nine file its material for the hearing
by 5.00pm tomorrow and the ABC its material by 5pm Monday.
The hearing has been set down for Wednesday December 22.
